About CILT

Advancing Wellbeing. Inspiring Connection.
Building a Healthier World Through Laughter

The Centre for Integral Laughter Therapy (CILT) is dedicated to advancing the understanding, practice, research, and professional development of Integral Laughter Therapy (ILT) – an innovative approach to wellbeing that places laughter at the heart of personal transformation, emotional resilience, and human connection.

We believe laughter is far more than a pleasant emotion or social activity. It is one of humanity’s most natural expressions of joy, presence, and connection. When intentionally combined with self-awareness, relaxation, reflection, meditation, visualisation, and daily practice, laughter becomes a catalyst for lasting positive change.

At CILT, our mission is to bridge the gap between science and lived experience by making evidence-informed laughter practices accessible to individuals, communities, organisations, educators, healthcare professionals, and wellbeing practitioners around the world.

Integral Laughter Therapy was introduced by Dr Martin Combrinck in his book, Beyond Laughter: Rediscovering Presence, Connection & Joy in an Age of Seriousness. Drawing on decades of professional experience and informed by neuroscience, positive psychology, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and contemplative practice, ILT offers a practical framework for cultivating resilience, reducing stress, strengthening relationships, and living with greater awareness and purpose.

The Centre serves as the international home of Integral Laughter Therapy. It is a place for learning, collaboration, research, professional training, and community – bringing together people who share a vision of creating healthier individuals, stronger organisations, and more connected communities.

Whether you are exploring laughter for your own wellbeing, seeking evidence-based tools for your professional practice, or wishing to become a certified Integral Laughter Therapy facilitator, CILT provides the knowledge, resources, and support to help you on your journey.

Together, we are building a global community committed to rediscovering the transformative power of laughter – not simply as a moment of happiness, but as a pathway to greater presence, resilience, connection, and flourishing.

Vision

To establish Integral Laughter Therapy as a recognised and respected discipline that enriches wellbeing, education, healthcare, workplaces, and communities worldwide.

Mission

The Centre for Integral Laughter Therapy exists to develop knowledge, train practitioners, support research, build professional standards, and foster a global community dedicated to advancing the science and practice of laughter for human flourishing.
